What Pico laser actually does.

Pico delivers laser energy in picoseconds — trillionths of a second. That ultra-short pulse shatters pigment and ink with photo-acoustic (sound) energy instead of heat. Translation: it works on more skin tones, with less inflammation, faster results, and a far lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation than older Q-switched nanosecond lasers.

Pigment & sun damage — Pico for melasma, sun spots, dark patches.

Arizona sun is brutal on skin. Pico is our go-to for melasma, sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, freckles and uneven tone. Most patients see meaningful change in 3–5 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart — paired with a strict at-home brightening and sunscreen protocol.

Tattoo removal — all colors, all stages.

Pico is the gold standard for tattoo removal because it handles colors (especially blues, greens and reds) that older lasers can't. Small tattoos start at $150 per session; expect 5–12 sessions depending on ink density, age and color. We test-spot every new tattoo at consult.

Pico toning — the no-downtime glow facial.

Series of low-energy Pico passes over the whole face that brighten tone, soften fine lines, refine pores and lift early pigment — with no downtime. Stack it with HydraFacial or microneedling for an event-ready glow.

Pico vs CO2 vs IPL — what do you need?

Pico = pigment, tattoos, all skin tones, minimal downtime. Cool Peel CO2 = texture, pores, fine lines, acne scars, 3–5 days down. IPL/Aerolase = vascular redness, broken capillaries, rosacea. Many of our patients combine treatments for full-face transformation. Your consult includes a skin analysis and a custom protocol.

Pico Laser questions from Gilbert patients

Good to know.

What is a Pico laser and how is it different from other lasers?
Pico (picosecond) lasers deliver energy in trillionths of a second — far faster than older nanosecond Q-switched lasers. That ultra-short pulse shatters pigment and ink into finer particles with less heat, which means safer treatment on more skin tones, less downtime, and stronger results on tattoos, melasma, sun spots and dull texture.
What does Pico laser treat in Gilbert?
At Tulua we use Pico for tattoo removal (all colors), sun spots and brown spots, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, freckles, and an overall skin-rejuvenation toning treatment that softens fine lines and refines pores.
How much does Pico laser cost in Gilbert, AZ?
Pico tattoo removal starts at $150 per session for small tattoos. Pigmentation and toning facials start at $350 per session. Most patients see significant change in 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Memberships and packages reduce per-session pricing.
How many Pico sessions will I need?
Pigment (sun spots, melasma): 3–5 sessions. Tattoo removal: 5–12 sessions depending on ink density, color and depth. Rejuvenation/toning: a series of 4, then maintenance every 3–6 months.
Is Pico laser safe for darker skin tones?
Yes — the picosecond pulse is one of the safer options for Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin because it relies on photo-acoustic (sound) energy more than heat, reducing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We still test-spot every new patient.
Is there downtime after Pico laser?
Most pigment and toning treatments have 0–24 hours of pinkness. Tattoo removal can leave temporary frosting, mild swelling and scabbing for 5–7 days. We send you home with a full aftercare kit.
Pico laser vs CO2 laser — which do I need?
Pico is best for pigment and tattoos with minimal downtime. CO2 (we use Cool Peel) is best for texture, pores, fine lines and acne scarring with 3–5 days of downtime. Many patients combine both — Pico for pigment, CO2 for resurfacing.
